WELCOME to the APRIL 2008 edition of Pain-Health-News, your very best resource for tips, techniques and information on dealing with PAIN. Whether you suffer from chronic, temporary or transient pain, you'll find helpful information right here.

Hi, I'm Bonnie Boots, publisher of Pain-Health-News. If this is your first visit here, you can meet me here. On the lower half of this page, you'll find links to the latest news about pain, but first I'd like to say a word...

Here in Florida, the morning news show has a segment called “Local Heroes.” The people they’ve profiled this week include an 8-year old girl who called 911 when her diabetic grandmother lost consciousness and a man who rescued his neighbor’s dogs from a burning house.

I like these stories. They illustrate that average people are inherently capable of doing extraordinary things when the need arises.

There’s one class of heroes, however, that never seem to make the show—that’s all the people who live with pain but still do their very best to care for themselves and their families, make their living and generally get on with their lives.

There are times in everyone’s life when it takes great courage just to wake up and face another day. For people who live with pain, that struggle and the courage it takes goes largely unrecognized by the outside world.

No medals are given to people who wash and iron their own clothes even though their hands are crippled with arthritis. No parades are thrown for people who go to work every day even though back pain forces them to spend breaks and lunch hours lying on the floor beside their desk.

Only you  know the days on which you perform as bravely as any hero. Your greatest struggles happen without an audience and your finest moments occur when no one is around to applaud. Let it be enough, then, that you know how much courage it takes to live your life. Acknowledge your own bravery and just for today, as you move about, be your own parade. Because in the end, what matters most is not what other people think about you---it's what YOU think about you!

Quotes To Give You Courage--

The supreme courage of life is the courage of the soul. It is living, day by day, sincerely, steadfastly, serenely, - despite all opinions, all obstacles, all opposition. This courage makes the simplest life, great; it makes the greatest life - sublime. It means the royal dignity of fine individual living.

--William George Jordan

I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.

--Helen Keller

Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow.

--Dorothy Thompson

(Note from Bonnie Boots: The story above caught my interest because I was treated for knee injuries at a sports medicine center. Some of the people being treated alongside me were very famous athletes. When I asked why they moved through treatment so quickly, while I went month after month without improvement, a therapist whispered in my ear, “If some rich owner was paying you  a million dollars a month, they’d be pumping steroids and pain pills into you, too.”  Years later I ran into one of these athletes at a charity event. Although still in his 30’s, he told me he was crippled by constant pain because he’d been rushed back into play. “I was young.” he said. “I wanted to play ball. I had no idea what it would do to the rest of my life.”)
